Coyotes in the Park

Park

Coyotes are one of many wildlife animals who call Downsview Park home. Fall is coyote dispersal season. After mating in winter and raising pups through spring and summer, young coyotes leave their packs in October and November to find their own territory. These juveniles are still learning how to live around people, so they may be more visible and curious than usual.

Coyotes are typically shy, but during this time, they might not know how to avoid humans or pets. If you're out walking your dog or spending time outdoors, stay alert and take precautions to avoid unwanted encounters.

If you encounter a coyote, do not approach, or feed them. Make noise and back away slowly. Always keep your dog on leash.
